Green Claims Directive — proposed

Status: PROPOSAL. ⚠️ VERIFY — proposed 22 March 2023 to require substantiation and verification of explicit environmental claims (“climate neutral”, “30% less CO2”). The procedure has been turbulent (reports in 2025 of a possible withdrawal); confirm the current state against the latest Commission and Parliament documents before relying on any detail here.

What it would do (as proposed)

• Companies must substantiate explicit green claims with recognised scientific evidence before making them.
• Independent verification of claims and environmental labels.
• Rules for comparative claims and proliferation of eco-labels.
